Holding out for a hero 'til the morning light.
Colour me starstruck. Not only is Hardware being released as a DVD special edition, but... *drum roll* The guy I sit opposite to... his father did some of the model making for the film including work on making the head! He is impressed that I've heard of the film, let alone my levels of enthusiasm. | | Friday, May 15th, 2009 | | 6:30 pm |
So if you don't mind me sayin'; I can see you're out of aces.
Every gambler knows; That the secret to survivin'; Is knowin' what to throw away; Knowin' what to keep. 'Cause every hand's a winner; And every hand's a loser. And the best that you can hope for; Is to die in your sleep. I should be so lucky. I'll be at Terminal tonight, because it beats the crap out of being at home. Although I'm flat broke and loosing my job next week, so you'll have to buy me beer in exchange for my charming presence. | | Wednesday, May 13th, 2009 | | 2:41 pm |

When you're strange: No-one remembers your name
The staff announcement at work was not -as I predicted- that we had been bought out by Somalian Pirates (It's a growth industry). We are all 'at risk' and thus I am potentially unemployed as of the end of the month. There was a list of departments who were escaping the axe, but I have no idea what department I'm actually in. Nor does the IT manager or the CTO. Nor does my actual boss (Who I spoke to for the third time ever today). This does not bode well. My saving grace is that I'm cheap. | | Monday, May 11th, 2009 | | 7:25 am |
No sleep; 'til bedtime! This time yesterday, I was staggering out into sunlight from slimelight. Now I am at work. Bah. | | Friday, May 8th, 2009 | | 2:12 pm |
I see a red door and I want it painted black http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/05/08/us_dod_black_budget/The world's forth largest military spender doesn't exist... Although frankly I'm still reeling from the fact that the UK is the world's second largest defence spender. although little bells are ringing in my head as regards a report issued by the US last month which basically pointed out that China's official defence spending figures were a complete work of fiction. I'm unsure if this article is citing the official figures or the US-estimated ones. | | Thursday, May 7th, 2009 | | 6:49 pm |

I was just beginning to trust you it seems; at the point that you needed to unpick the seams. There appears to be a random rusty metal sculpture on my way to work. It sprouted from the ground a few weeks ago. I'm not sure why anyone bothered, as it's right where there is an enormous crop of stinging nettles every summer, and in a really bizarre location. It would have been a better investment to install some form of lighting along the path. I was considering making a 'top ten worst things that friends have done to me' by way of something to do, but figured it might come across as a bit negative. Tescos are selling Pocky Mikado at 58p a pack at present. Sadly, 'Mikado for Men' is not yet available in the UK. I may be going to Slimelight on Saturday. Or I may not. Anyone interested? I would severely love not to have to go home for about a week, right now. | | Tuesday, April 28th, 2009 | | 5:51 pm |
What is it good for: absolutely nothing Things I like about Civ IV: Exploring, looking for decent places to build The tech tree Building wonders Agressive, constant warefare Technical and military development Crushing my many foes Things that bore me in Civ IV: Trading Micro-managing cities The navy On the whole, Civ IV is great. So I bought Civ : Colonisation. Things that Civ: Col is about: Micro-managing towns Naval power Trading Peacefully dealing with others, with one final conflict. Things that don't exist in Civ: Col: Wonders A tech tree Military development On the whole, I rather wish that I hadn't bothered. I'm back to Medieval Total War II! | | Monday, April 27th, 2009 | | 12:53 pm |
The hunt is not the thrill I'm after. I want the kill, the conquest: To be your master Interesting article on El Reg: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/04/24/torture_garden_club_scan/Regulars at the Torture Garden are required to produce ID at the door, which is recorded and retained for 3 years, for potential use by the authorities. Which means that they might as well just leave the database on a train tomorrow, or send it straight to the Sun. I can see quite a few atendees not being keen on this idea. Especially the ones who may be professionally compromised by attending a fetish club. But that's tough luck, because Jaquie NEEDS to know all your personal habits, such as what internet sites you visit and who you speak to ( http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/8020039.stm ) I don't go to Torture Garden - seeing 60 year olds in rubber pants and little else isn't something I like to do in my spare time. But if I did, I'm pretty sure that I would take issue about my nocturnal habits being recorded. | | Thursday, April 9th, 2009 | | 4:13 pm |
I'm still standing I'm still here. I just can't be bothered to write much. I missed Mikki's do because I had to be up early on Sunday to get down to London for Covenant and Mesh. The Thai we had beforehand wasn't too great or filling, so as we left the restaraunt, we walked to the one on the other side of the road and had a curry. Anna got drunk and fancies Covenant's frontman. I wasn't lightweight enough and she'd sobered up by the time I managed to get tipsy. I get really annoyed by friends who can't be bothered to reply to texts. Not that she reads LJ. Off to Slimes on Saturday. It might be the last time for a while: We'll have to see. I've been invited down to club AC at the end of the month. I'd quite like to go, but I need to scare some company up, as I don't want to feel like a gooseberry. Anyone coming with me might have to deal with emotional trauma: Friday the 24th of April is going to be one of those historically bad days in my diary, so I'm not sure that going out clubbing is the best idea. I need to write a gig review but haven't. I would get excited about Exile, but I refuse to do so until I see a flyer. *HINT HINT* Hmm... Recently picked up a Pratchett novel for the first time in ages, and I'm getting back into reading a bit. Civ: Colonisation isn't that fantastic, but will tide me over, I suppose. | | Thursday, April 2nd, 2009 | | 1:34 pm |

Judgement day's not coming soon enough I'm playing Hades on Saturday, so I hope to see a few people there. My monitor blew up, but Lucy gave me a new one. I am cooking Italian tonight and planning on having a nice meal. I am broke and no new job is in sight. My car is on Google streetview. Both of my cars are visible on Google Earth. Came second (as per usual) behind Steve (as per usual) in the BB league. I have to be on a train to London at 7am on sunday morning. Things are easy when you're big in Japan Today at work, I have mostly been adding the letter 'u' to the word 'color'. Except for the two hours spent fiddling with tedious data in a spreadsheet. I have kept myself sane via the BBC website and by listening to Saki's 'Reginald' on headphones. It must kind of suck to be a depressed maniac who elects to go on a killing spree culminating in suicide or suicide-by-cop, only to have your body count trumped and column inches stolen from you by someone else doing the same thing on the same day. What are the odds, eh? And why do they always wear black? They give us honest hard-working people who always wear black a bad name. On the other hand, people have been eyeing me nervously and keeping me well topped up with tea today. On the subject of killing sprees, did you know that the word 'Amok' is an import to our language, heralding from Malaysia? It describes the bahavior of angsty young men (who might or might not have been a bit goth) who used to commit the local version of 'suicide by cop' by going on knife-wielding rampage until hacked to death by their peers. The number of episodes dropped dramatically under colonial rule, as perpetrators were arrested intact and suffered the ignominy of trial and execution. Apparently, suicide ain't so cool if you get officially branded as a criminal murderer first, prior to being dangled from the end of a rope. While checking my spelling, I discovered that such behaviour was called 'iich'aa' by Navaho native Americans. So you've learned something today. Don't say I'm not useful (Only Anna gets to say that about me). | | Thursday, February 26th, 2009 | | 6:38 pm |
The ice age is coming, the sun's zooming in; Engines stop running, the wheat is growing thin I should update more. However, I am currently bored/fed-up with livemyfaceBBS world, and haven't been online very much. Even my email is only glanced at. I am obviously ill or something. Or spending valuable time-at-computer-when-Anna-is-home credits on Civ IV. *** I cooked an awesome chilli yesterday. I had tortillas for breakfast. With lots of cheese and fresh salad. *** Last weekend saw us braving a stunningly crap train service in order to visit Slimelight on monthly-ish pilgrimage. Slimes continues to churn out replicants of those we know; this time producing a Mandy-a-like and a Slava-a-like. Duplicated details included appearance, dress style, and style of dance. We also bumped into Anvil Man from Infest. While I remember, last time we went, we saw Stompy Girl. Stompy Girl has put on weight and now dances in a style that is even less varied than before. I am aware that this is gibberish to most of you, but it matters to me. My post-Slimes knackeredness (PSK in future) was made worse by bumping into a small proportion of Norwich on the way home (Gordon, Dave, Emily and a bloke I can never remember the name of) and electing to sit around chatting on the train/bus/train, rather than getting any sleep. Stupid me. In the wake of this conversation, I have made efforts to find more new decent EBM and Industrial music. *** While I remember; next Slimes trip is likely to be for the Zeromancer gig. And is anyone else heading down to watch Covenant/Mesh or Apop Berzerk? *** Saturday is 'Run With Us', where I will be playing depressing goth music, intermixed with synthpop, post punk, and songs sung by people in stonewashed jeans with big hair. Simon and John will also be playing. Afterwards, I will be drunk, and Liz will probably tempt me off the path of rightousness and make me stay up far too late. Again. | | Friday, February 20th, 2009 | | 6:30 pm |
Creature. judgement. butcher. engineer. Now that's a boss I can respect. The new CTO wandered through the office offering beer earlier. We naturally assumed he meant 'go for a beer after work'. But no. The new CTO [I really should learn his name] is Australian. And Australians do these things differently, it seems. A cold bottle of cider was bought to my desk at 5pm, and the IT department made it's way to the TV room and put its feet up for an hour and a half. Here we discussed religion, philosophy, direct neural interfaces and the future of mankind. My kind of conversation. Hopefully this is a weekly ritual. Just when work was hammering my ego and will to live into the sub-strata, I get handed cold cider. I think that makes the rest of the day look almost tolerable! |
